Why I Love Yoga & Getting to Teach It

Carissa Collins | NOV 29, 2025

Yoga has been many things for me over the years, but the one thing it has always offered, no matter the season of my life, is space.

Space to breathe,
space to feel,
space to slow down enough to actually hear my own thoughts,
space to reconnect with my body instead of rushing through my day.

I love yoga because it teaches presence, not perfection. That lesson has been such an important shift for me, especially since I am a perfectionist at heart and have always set extremely high expectations for myself. Deepening my practice has softened me in ways I truly needed. It has taught me grace, both with myself and with others, and reminded me that growth is not about reaching an end goal, but about becoming a little more grounded and a little more open each day.

Yoga is a practice, which means you are always learning, always adjusting, always becoming.

Some days your balance is wobbly,
some days your mind is loud and scattered,
some days your energy is low and child’s pose becomes the whole practice.

That is the beauty of it. Yoga meets you exactly where you are, without judgment.

And teaching yoga has become its own kind of blessing. There is something deeply humbling about guiding people through movement and witnessing the small, meaningful shifts in their bodies and breath. A softer inhale, a longer exhale, shoulders that finally drop, a face that relaxes after holding tension all day, a moment of peace that settles in the room like a warm sigh.

It has never been about the poses. It is about creating a space where people can reconnect with themselves, even briefly, even gently, even imperfectly.

Teaching has shown me how resilient people are, how much we all quietly carry, and how much we all need softness, connection, and presence. Every class reminds me why I do this. To help people feel more at home in their bodies. To offer a space where slowing down feels possible. To hold a container where breathing becomes just a little easier.

Before you go, I’d love to know; what is your why when it comes to yoga? What keeps you connected to your practice?

And if you have ever taken a class with me, thank you. Your presence means more to me than you know. I am grateful every time I see you roll out your mat, settle into stillness, and allow yourself to simply be.

Here is to more growth, more softness, and more space, both on and off the mat.
